The Long way home Part One

Hello Everyone,

For those unaware we have been on vacation for the last three weeks and I left Edmonton for Inuvik in our new car. I had planned to leave early on Wednesday but circumstances sent me on the road early. I Had planned to do the first leg of the journey from Edmonton to Fort Nelson on my first day, but since I ended up leaving a day early but late in the day (1:30) I had to amend my destination to Dawson Creek BC. (a distance of 560 km). Most of the trip was on basic Alberta highways, two lanes of blacktop, no wildlife to speak of, very little visual impact. I did have a brief encounter with some buffalo but other than that the trip was uneventful. My intended target of Dawson Creek ended up getting a pass as the town seemed to believe its own press and the hotels felt the demand for their services was three times the value of our superior Edmonton Hotel, so I re planned my route and continued through to Fort St. John. Where I stayed in a hotel, that while being the cheapest hotel I had stayed in during the last twenty years would also have sent most people screaming to the streets in fear of their lives. However since I was alone for this trip and that sheets looked clean, I embraced my death defying side and checked in. I might have had second thoughts briefly when I noticed the scratches on the inside of the door, as if someone had struggled to get out but ultimately the stay proved uneventful and relaxing. On the 12 inch TV I passed the hours and planned my trip to Watson Lake for the next day.
