Hello Everyone,
Today was the first day of the Jamboree, these are images from the relay race where three drivers each run three laps, first through the finish line wins. The excitement continued right through to the last lap when a quarter of a mile from the finish line the leader gunned it off the corner and lost his grip and off his sled went without him, while he was chasing it to catch up second place took and kept the lead all the way to the finish line. The town is flush with out of towners and the store is packed with the same. Right now everyone is gathered at the arena for the feast and a talent show, however with everything that has happened this week, I'm just going to call it a day and retire quietly to my humble abode.

Jamboree is almost here.

This is for all the people who told me when I was twenty I'd be bald by 30, and for all the people who said I would be bald by forty when I was thirty. Well, I'll be forty in a month or two and I still see some hair there, maybe I'll shave my head.

Hello Everyone,
This weekend will mark the town spring Jamboree and the weather seems to be playing along so far, Its been a lovely week with warm weather all around. The Jamboree will feature events such as the opening feast ski-doo races, a shooting competition, dog races etc. However on a sad note the festivities will no go off as planned as there will have to break on Saturday for the funeral of a 16 year old girl who died of exposure in Inuvik recently, she had many family in our area and her funeral will be held in Fort MacPherson. I'm sure the community will struggle to enjoy the spring events on such a sad day.
Hopefully, I will have a opportunity to peek my head out of the store during these event as well and maybe even partake.

The last ride

Hello everyone,
Tonight I took out one of our ski-doo's for what seems to have become its final ride. While driving up a hill outside of town it seemed to struggle a bit and when we got to the top it simply stalled out. Upon trying to restart it I found the starter locked and after a long walk home and a quick call to the local mechanic it looks like the engine might have seized up on me. Oddly enough I took this footage of our ride tonight. Looks like we're back to having a sled for parts, C'est la vie.

Not for the PC, Peta, Greenpeacers or other ill-informed well meaning people.

Hello Everyone,
'Tis the time of year for every well meaning, but ill informed southerner to publicly voice their personal objection to the slaughter of seals off of the coast of Canada. I really would rather appreciate it if they kept their objections to subjects they had actual knowledge of, maybe personal gains tax exceptions, maximizing personal deductions (by contributing to environmental organisations), traffic, and where to go for a really nice holiday. Years ago, 25 I believe, Jacques Cousteau (presumably a avid anti-environmentalist) asked Greenpeace and other organisations to focus their attention away from the seal hunt towards actual environmental concerns that possibly weren't as photogenic as the Harp seal but actually in jeopardy. However, the single largest money making event for Greenpeace remains the seal hunt and the publicity they derive from the annual exposure, they literally cannot afford to move on to actual environmental concerns.
In the years since Mr. Cousteau pleaded his case; the seal population has tripled. Now while I realize there are other factor involved; no one seems to ask what this growing population of seals eat, and might that have some bearing upon the declining fish populations during that same time frame upon that same coast. Rather lets just ignore that rather "Inconvenient Truth". Seals are cute. Another person who I consider a friend has laid out some interesting facts I recommend you peruse at

The time has come in our existence to quit falling for the media's push upon our minds and opinions and think for ourselves, maybe even, since we have been given this tool we call the Internet to actually do a little research ourselves rather than accept that conveniently fed sound-byte from the media and public concern groups. We were given minds long before these tools, lets use them as well, before we simply accept the truly convenient, lets just think for once.
