Hello everyone,
Yesterdays post was premature and the reports of springs arrive may have been greatly exaggerated. To assist our southern readers I made sure to include a weather widget on my Blog, why, I have no idea. I check it every morning as weather up here is very important to daily life. However, I trust it as far as I could comfortably spit a dead cat. Yesterday weather Canada reported that our temp was -4 at it's highest and it was raining. Yesterday was a beautiful day that must have been zero with nice clear skies. Today was supposed to be 4- and lovely as well, and apparently all this nice weather (according to enviro Canada) has ticked mother nature off, and make no mistake she can be a vicious mother. This afternoon around three, a system blew into town with the intention of blowing the town a couple of miles further North. environment Canada still insists as of this minute that it is -4, -14 with windchill and the wind is blowing at 38 kph. I would invite that person to come on up here and enjoy this balmy weather with a gentle breeze.
This house is the furthest I have lived from a store, a total of 372 steps. Now once before in Baker lake I experienced an interesting phenomenon, when your drink something really cold you get a pain in the middle of your head starting in your sinus's and radiating outward. In Baker I experienced the same sort of thing by walking to the store, it literally felt like my brain was rapidly freezing, and I experienced the same thing today. So in today's glorious spring day I experienced this very painful and annoying stimulus. Thanks to environment Canada for advising me of the wonderful day it was going to be so I could leave my toque at home.
I will continue to have my Widget at the side of this blog, but don't take it serious, its for my own amusement.

Silliness Abounds

Hello Everyone,
Well, as you can see from the comments in a previous post (the end of the world as we know it) we have a friend (OK Melissa has a friend, I have a stalker who wants me, real bad) in Kentucky who is claiming to have beaten our temperature yesterday. The city where they live is exactly 2670 km to the south of our current location, and before accepting such a outrageous claim I needed to verify. Yes... Its true, yesterday Frankfort Kentucky beat the heck out of our temp. second, while verifying this info I found out that Frankfort is currently under a heavy snowfall warning. Before 4 Am they expect to receive 4-6 inches of snow.
Ok, lets just discuss the gravity of this situation. While our current address is Quebec, make no mistakes, we are in the north. The ice in the bay will melt in June, we live 500 km north of the nearest tree, we are surrounded by tundra, our local wildlife consists of Polar Bears, Arctic Char, Seals and all good northern animals. Kentucky is, well Kentucky, mint juleps, horse races and hollers where ya can marry your cousin in order to diversify your gene pool. But don't worry, the government is investigating the situation and will have firm plans in place by 2050. I know about El Nino, and global warming and carbon balancing etc. but really think about this. It is serious.

Sundown at the No-Snow Corral

Hello Everyone,
Well another warm day in a stream of seemingly unending warm days. For about the 5th day in a row we've had temps around zero. Today we had fog for crying out loud. Tonight the low will be -2 (seasonal norms should be around -16). There's no sign of freeze up and our snow is rapidly dissapearing under this strange weather.
I have someone coming in Novemeber to help out (till Christmas I hope). We're busy planning the christmas events, as well as celebrating Northern Days right now. Sales are growing daily so at least I'm not having any hassels from HO, the amazing southern addage holds true up here, take care of sales and all your problems will go away.
Anyways, the real reason for this post was tonight's sunset. This is what greeted me at 4:15 through the front doors of my store. Find me a sunset like that, with fresh air, good people, a complete lack of traffic jams and a strong sense of community and I'll be back south in a minute. I mean, come on look at that sunset, its enough to make a painter cry.
