On the Road Again,

Hello Everyone,
Well, Its official. Our family has accepted a position in the community of Kangiqsujuaq, on the northern reaches of Quebec. It is a Inuit community of a small size (500 people) and the store volume is comparable to that of Repulse Bay. I have heard great things about this community which is one of the reasons we jumped at this opportunity. This also means Melissa will not be a Casual employee anymore. I am going to train Melissa to be my grocery manager and she will become a salaried manager. This is not what we had in mind when we came here, but we'll just keep rollin with the punches. We will be leaving here around the 26th of this month and taking the 8 hour plane ride to Winnipeg, then onto the 3 hour plane ride to Toronto (where we hope to have a layover of a couple of days. From there we will take another 2.5 hour flight and overnight in Montreal then onto Air Inuit for the 9.5 hour flight to Kangiqsujuaq stopping at apparently every settlement from James Bay onward, looks like about 8 stops before we finally arrive. It will be a very long journey with a 4 year energy bomb like Christopher. It is rumored we will be able to spend a couple of years in this community.
Take Care

I am in Nunavik. Do yourself and your family a huge favour! Get the northern to rebook your flight. It sounds like they have you and your little one on the Air Inuit flight up the Hudson Coast to Wakeum Bay!!! Don't let them do that to you and yor family. You can get there far quicker if you fly First Air from Montreal to Kuujuaq. Then you take the Ungava coast flight to your new community. There is an approxiamate 3 hour layover in Kuuj, so pack a lunch, or better yet, make arrangements to go to the Northern there. There are cabs in Kuuj.

Wakeum is a pretty nice community. Like all the north, there are social problems but they have a Northern ; ) Seriously though, I am in a neighboring village and can get you more info, if you want, on your new community.

Congratulations on your move. Don't envy all that flying though.

Just got your post. My boyfriend and I have been in Kangiqsujuaq for about 3 months now. We are up here teaching at the school. We really like the community, and have been readily welcomed with open arms....(save some of the students who don't like teachers :) . It is very beautiful here, as you might have heard, and I think your view from the Northern where you are now is very similiar to what it will be here. I know the couple who manage the Northern here, and I am very sad to see them leaving. Of course it will be nice to meet you and your family. Most of the teachers shop at the Northern, so you will get to meet us all eventually. Hope all goes well in your flights over. I'm sure you will like it here.

p.s. I hope you like sports, becuase this is a very sports, especially hockey, driven town.

Never a dull moment with you and your family. I hope you have a wonderful trip and that maybe some of your family will have a chance to see you for a visit on route to your new home.

Take care and make sure you give us all the details once you are settled.
